Title: On Moonkin Author: Magus Serafine Amberlake
Location found: Mailed Retrieved by: Vandrysse Dyce
Type [Tome, Scroll, etc.]: Letter Condition [Poor, Fair, Good, Excellent]: Excellent
Summary of Contents: An introduction to the study of Moonkin Excerpt: (the entire letter)
To the Esteemed Members of the Mageroyal Society:
I am happily able to report that after a pleasant and uneventful trip I have arrived safely in Darnassus. I expect to spend the next days provisioning and obtaining the advice of locals familiar with the area before setting off for Azuremyst Isle. In the meantime, an introduction to our subject matter seems in order.
On Moonkin
First, let us define the species we wish to examine. Moonkin (from the Darnassian el-dorei, ‘children/people of the moon’), known variously as wildkin, owlkin, and owlbeasts, among other regional variants, are an Azerothian species native to Kalimdor and the Eastern Kingdoms.* Despite their wide geographical range, moonkin are easily recognized by their unique appearance and distinct culture, the existence of which I will continue to argue throughout my correspondence with the Society.
Although historically a point of some contention, moonkin are undoubtedly a sentient species. They have their own culture and customs, including a distinct language; many also understand Darnassian. Though a quiet and reclusive species, they can be found entwined throughout Kaldorei history. Most recently, reports from the Third War indicate that they played some minor role within the night elf resistance.
Also contended, and less clear to the observer, is the question of whether or not moonkin possess magical abilities. Kaldorei lore associates them strongly with Elune, possibly indicating some degree of lunar magic native to the species. I hope to establish the accuracy of this claim during the course of my research.
My apologies for the brevity of this letter, but time is short. Finally, if I may take this opportunity to express my gratitude to the learned members of the Society for this opportunity to share my findings. It is a great honor for an inexperienced scientist.
Sincerely,
Magus Serafine Amberlake
*It is my understanding that there is occasional informal distinction in the use of moonkin, wildkin, etc in referring to different subspecies, the existence of which I will speak on at length at a later date. Here, I will use ‘moonkin’ as a general term for the species.

Several high quality gems were retrieved from Isiset’s chamber, the Seat of Magic. No magical properties detected.
A ceremonial sword was donated to the Society by Teryani, retrieved from Rajh’s chamber, the Seat of Radiance. This short sword is in excellent condition, with hieroglyphs etched onto the blade itself that reads, “Lord of the Beams, Soul of Souls.” A colorful winged scarab decorates the hilt.
The weapon does possess magical properties, the extent of which has not been determined as of yet. The blade was demonstrated by Mr. Vallaunius Roldan to set fire to wood upon contact.
